My Review:
It sickens me to even write this review as part of my childhood was crushed tonight in watching this film. Growing up I watched and lived Jim Henson. Tonight I am thankful that I missed this movie as a child. Sadly I did not miss it as an adult. As it showed how children's films where once not written for anyone but for kids. Then that is a stretch as this movie was one bad pun after another.

From the opening credits to the end credits the Muppet's are spot on. Which I have always enjoyed sadly thought the writing was the worst I have ever heard in anything Jim Henson has ever done. Let's just call this his worst work ever honestly. With names like Ace Yu, Mugsy Them and even a character only known as Laughing Boy. You seriously can not take this with anything other than a grain of salt and a Tylenol for the ensuing headache that will follow.

Everything that is said is groan inducing and I mean everything. From lines where they state the obvious for musical cues. To the fact that only highlight is Rowlf the Dog playing the piano. Sadly if Rowlf was to be asked what movie he would soon forget. This would be to top of the list as he had the lovely fact of pointing out every pun, bad joke and dog joke possible. Not that we needed it at all.

So here is the story Ace Yu inherits a Bar/Cafe and his Uncle was killed by Mugsy Them. All because he refused to pay up to the tyrant. So when Ace Yu shows up Mugsy wants the same thing and well Ace doesn't want to. So it is your basic tyrant wants his money and good guy doesn't want to and still gets the girl at the end. Typical late 30's early 40's gangster movies. Which this movie is based on.Thankfully there are more movies out there that are a lot better than this.

So here is my recommendation. If you have to see everything Jim Henson has ever done this will be a must see. But if you can I recommend steering clear of this completely. I just wish that Jim Henson took some pride in this as the carton Dog City was a great and entertaining show. Sadly he took this out and shot it just like Travis shot Old Yeller when he had rabies. Thanks for killing part of my childhood Jim and we the movie going audience still miss you Jim. So I will let this one off.

My Rating: 1.5/5 Stars
